How did you get into healthcare?
It’s funny, because I stumbled into the healthcare field after serving many years in the public service and mental health field. I came into healthcare and completely fell in love with the knowledge, value, and skills you gain from working day to day. I found healthcare was my avenue in the broad world of social work and I excelled quickly. When I looked back in my life, I can’t help but acknowledge my early experience with healthcare. I grew up in a nursing home setting with my mother serving as an aid/medication aid for 30+ years. Also, I interned in a Nursing home setting my senior year in undergrad, starting my skills.

How did you get into healthcare?
I initially joined Ridgewood as a receptionist, where I discovered a passion for helping people feel welcomed and supported from the moment they walk in. That role opened the door for me into the healthcare field and helped me realize how much I enjoy working in an environment centered on care and connection.

Why do you love what you do?
As a receptionist, I loved being the friendly face people saw first; it gave me a chance to make someone’s day a little brighter. Now that I’ve transitioned into medical records, I’m discovering a new appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly. I enjoy working with technology and learning how my role supports both staff and patient care in new and different ways.

What do you think makes Ridgewood a special facility?

Deanna Menard

Staff Development Coordinator

How did you get into healthcare?
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be in healthcare. Growing up, my mom faced ongoing health issues, and as a family, we often felt left in the dark when it came to understanding her care. That experience made me realize how important communication and compassion are in this field. I wanted to be the kind of person who could help bridge that gap for other families, someone they could trust to explain, support, and truly care for their loved ones.

Why do you love what you do?
I love the daily interactions with my residents they truly keep me going. Over time, you become their family away from home. Sometimes, you might be the only person who can make them smile that day, and that connection means everything. Being able to brighten someone’s day, even in a small way, is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.

What makes Ridgewood a special facility?
The residents are the heart of Ridgewood they’re the reason you come back every day. Even on the tough days, they have a way of lifting your spirits. There’s also something special about the team here. The majority of my coworkers are not only skilled, but incredibly supportive. It truly feels like a second family.

I continued my education at Beaufort Community College to receive a degree in registered nursing. I took the knowledge I gained from BCCC to continue my education at Pitt Community College and graduated with an associate’s degree in health information technology. The skills I gained from BCCC and PCCC have given me the confidence and the knowledge to be a Business Office Manager at Ridgewood Rehabilitation.
